Many editors, proofreaders and indexers are currently preparing to attend the SfEP/SI's joint Collaborate and Innovate conference in York in September or the EAC’s Editing Goes Global conference in Toronto this week. I'm sure they will learn a lot, discuss a variety of issues and use the conferences to network in person.
For some, the very word ‘networking’ can induce a cold sweat. Networking is one of the awful necessities to be endured by those in business, and is especially important for freelancers. But it needn’t be so difficult, and if you approach it a certain way, you might even find it enjoyable – no, honestly, it’s possible!
